Food Pantry
Our food pantry provides a variety of perishable and nonperishable items. Meat, produce, bakery, canned and dry goods are packed and provided to our clients. The Hope Distributed food pantry is set up to look like a grocery store. This provides our clients with the ability to choose the food they want for their families. This idea allows everyone to maintain the dignity and respect we all deserve.
Hope Delivered
We strive to help anyone fighting food insecurity regardless of their situation. Hope Delivered is a way to serve those who are shut-in, handicapped, elderly, or disabled. Currently we are delivering food to nearly 80 households monthly throughout our area. This program has given hope to a demographic that is far too often forgotten about.
Another component of Hope Delivered is delivering monthly food supplies to those who served in the United States military and are now qualified as disabled due to their service. These deliveries are made by Hope Distributed volunteers who are also United States military veterans. This is our small way to show our gratitude and appreciation for those who selflessly served our nation.
Hope For Kids
Partnering with the schools of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County as well as local churches and civic organizations, Hope for Kid’s is a program designed to provide boxes or bags of nutritious food and snacks for children and their families alleviating the risk of child hunger and reducing the threat to their health, growth, and development. Our “BackPack” program currently serves 10 schools. Every Friday, students who are in need are given a bag to take home to ensure their home will have food available during the weekend. Hope Distributed also partners with the 24 schools that make up the Rockingham County Public Schools to provide at need students with food boxes during extended breaks in the school year, such as Thanksgiving break, Winter break and Spring Break. During these distributions, Rockingham County Schools receive over 470 food boxes to ensure their students have ample nutrition while schools are closed.
Currently in Rockingham County Public Schools and Harrisonburg City Public Schools combined there are 10,467 students whose families qualify for a free or reduced lunch, thus making them vulnerable to food insecurity.
